❇️ THE AMAZING TEFLON DONALD TRUMP: WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?? ❇️
Well, on the Sunday aftermath of the August 6th GOP Debate, with the Twitterverse aflame with Trump's scorching tweets addressed to the moderators of the prime time debate, focus group leaders, etc., and The Donald dominating the Sunday Political News Shows, there is just no other way to describe the Trump teflon phenomenon, than simply: amazing.
- He says outrageous, boorish things which would end anyone else's career - political or otherwise;
- He goes after everybody and everything, including journalists, moderators, politicians, government officials, women, illegal aliens, trade agreements - and the list goes on: nothing is sacred, and some attacks are downright vicious. Definitely no gentleman;
- He not only is not one to engage in any modicum of false modesty, he exhibits no modesty at all. Just as he goes after others at the slightest provocation, he praises himself to the hilt, and claims to be beloved by everyone;
- He revels in being controversial, and loves being the center of attention.
And still, people do indeed love him. Not only love him, but fiercely defend him.
In particular, it has been pretty amazing observing the aftermath of the Megyn Kelly debate kerfuffle. The expectation would have been for the public - especially women - to get disgusted with the comments Kelly described Trump as having made about women, and yet the one who got rained upon was Megyn Kelly! She was called a lot of things, and many - including women - called for her dismissal and promised never to watch Fox News again.

And then Trump said some extraordinarily egregious, crude and rude things about Kelly herself, not worth repeating here. To her credit, Kelly basically responded by saying she was a big girl and could take care of herself, and posed the query: if he can't get past me, how is he going to get past Putin?
Unrepentant, Trump tweeted a not quite so egregious, but still nasty comment about Carly Fiorina:
Many hoped that the Kelly comments went over the line, and ventured the opinion that the Trump campaign was/is finally on life support. RedState uninvited Trump to its confab this weekend after those remarks, and a key campaign staffer, Roger Stone, resigned.
On the other hand, Trump was invited to 3 Sunday news shows, and in at least one poll he remains a double-digit frontrunner. Pretty much an absolutely unheard of, unconventional and out-of-the-park response. Indeed, according to Google, searches for Trump have increased rather dramatically over time:
Soooo, what's going on?
As the going and growing consensus goes, no doubt he has tapped into - and gives voice to - a deep seated anger and frustration at the status quo. But that wouldn't completely explain such a fervent and particularly fierce allegiance and staying power in the peoples' psyche.
More has to be going on. And - whatever it is - it goes beyond the Republican party.
It is as if the voting public has a desperate need to believe in someone who can get the country out of the malaise and morass in which it perceives the country is mired. There is a reason the Republicans - in truly historic proportions - painted the country red in the 2014 intermediate elections. There was unquestionably a deep discontent with the Obama administration, its public policies, and the perceived deep cultural changes pervading the country, which boiled over.
But, after the elections, nothing really changed, and a lot of people started feeling duped and lost their confidence in the Republican tsunami. It has been as if those elected into power, once in power, became wobbly at the knees and lost the courage of their convictions. There is the added sense that they are not listening to the voters - and those that do, get punished by the upper brass (recall Speaker Boehner punishing those who refused to toe the line and vote for the Trade Promotion Authority) - along with the sense that the country is rapidly slipping away from its moorings that made it the No. 1 economic and political power in the world.
Then along comes Donald Trump.
First of all, he has a gigantic mediatic presence.
Second of all, he may not sound very articulate - his sentences often run into each other - and he is greatly lacking in details, but he does not and has not wavered in his stated convictions. He is passionate and enthusiastic about Making America Great Again, and has been willing to take serious body blows to keep that message going - a message with deep resonance for the reasons stated above. He is not intimidated by anyone, not the media - liberal or conservative - not detractors, not those who would boycott his products, no one.
No one in politics has ever done that, with the possible exception of Ted Cruz, currently, and Ronald Reagan, before. That alone makes him somebody the body politic thinks it can believe in to correct the direction of the country.
As the contenders get winnowed out by the election process, only time will tell if Trump can back-up his bravado with real substance and his fierce loyalists will continue to believe in him until the end, or if he looses his ground and his take-no-prisoners personality does ultimately prove to be his own undoing.

That's how long it takes to both keep up with current events and learn from the greats in history. How can you expect to be successful if your idea of what's happening in the world is vague or nonexistent?"
